Why is it that some nano materials and alloys exhibit inverse Hall-Petch effect? It is true that some nano scale materials exhibit inverse Hall-Petch effect, i.e, decreasing grain size doesn't seem to increase yield stress but rather decrease it. This is specific to certain nano scale domains. Why ? What exactly is happening ?
Yes, inverse hall petch effect occurs in nano size particle. The reason may be attributed to the dislocations. If grains are of nano size. It cannot accomodate sufficient dislocation hence dislocation piling is not feasible. there for the dislocation easily surpass from one nano grain to another.
