Why is it not correct to apply the same equations (with no correction) used to calculate Surface Heat Exchange for water bodies (solar, long-wave, evaporation, back long and conduction) to calculate the heat storage in the aeration tank? (of course, besides biological, aeration and mechanical radiations too).
why there are minor corrections, and sometimes there is a multiplication by the surface area?

kLa is a very important design parameter for wastewater aeration. I have studied the energetic optimization and adaptive control of the dissolved oxygen concentration in aerobic fermenters by numerical simulation. The parameters of the usual KLa correlation were estimated on-line and at real-time through the recursive least squares algorithm with forgetting factor, most effectively when a small sinusoidal disturbance was imposed to the manipulated variables (stirring rate and/or air flow). The power dissipated by agitation was accessed by a torque meter (pilot plant). This investigation was reported at (MSc Thesis):

I am not sure but it could be due to what substances are being aerated in the tank. The aeration is necessary to provide oxygen meaning some microorganisms or chemical species are consuming oxygen. This process of oxidation produces/consumes energy that need to be accounted for.
