I think that argon as well as helium can be used as in this synthesis, sometimes the price is a important factor for choosing these gases.

@Edwin I see. I am just wondering why Argon atmosphere is always used for the synthesis of max phase ceramic powder in almost all the journals and studies I have read despite helium being a cheaper choice than argon.
