Shortage of rain is certainly not limited to Iraq; Iran is similarly suffering from unprecedented lack of rain. One main factor is human's intervention in nature. For instance, building dams to tap water has created havoc in the natural cycle of water flow and distribution. Another factor may be political. Using weather warfare to cripple recalcitrant countries like Iran. The latter was used in Vietnam to bog down enemy tanks due to heavy rains.
Why Iraq for two full years suffer from low rainfall and high temperatures?
It is well known that rainfall is an unpredictable phenomena, statistically it is called( Stochastic) not( Deterministic ), this is my opinion although Climate Change may have some contribution to this. Best regards.
Dear Reza Biria, you've mentioned dams construction in your comment and the intervention it might cause in water flow and distribution. Do you have by any chance any material talking about this subject that you could indicate? Thank you very much in advance.
the two terms of stochastic and deterministic that been mentioned by the colleague (Nabeel Hameed Al-Saati) both are really fantastic terms that have been used in the academic and and specifically hydrologists media, indeed it is a stochastic phenomena, but as we see and anticipated by a lot of researchers that the increments of temperature are going up by time, there is no any indicators to show any expectancy to be lower. This as a result of man-made induced activities as a global so called anthropological activities that hos-pock and havoc the nature.
bear in mind, Iraqi climate has affected by the Mediterranean climate also especially in 2008, 2009, not only the local influential impacts, another factor that affects this is the usage of weapons during both gulf wars and so called Iraqi freedom operation. do not forget that raising up temperature causes to draw down precipitations , as you know that one affects each other as hydrology circulation. Both the politicians and decision-makers from side and researchers from another side still have been studying and looking for ways to tackle the issue.
that is way the World Economic Forum 2017 pointed out the climate alteration as one of the highlighted themes in their speeches.
This is a complicated issues. It is not limited to Iraq but involve many countries and regions. Global warming may be one major issue but other contributory factors need to be considered.
The daily temperature extreme of iraq showed increased change more than other world from the mid of the last century until now . you can read my article which titled " Long-terms trends in daily temperature extremes in Iraq". I hope its helped you to get opinion about that. its published in atmospheric research journal. its very important to understand historical climate change in Iraq. you can find it in the link below
