Realistically speaking I have not found proper leadership who can take India towards progress and development. Power has been misused maximum times we have not seen any major change taking place in India. When elections are very near then political leaders may have different slogans and agendas for development. However, when these leaders get power to rule they mostly failed then people of India wait for next regime but they have again similar experience. When would be that time when people of India will not be misguided in the name of religion, caste, community, language, gender and region. When would be that day when people of India give power to those who are able and who believe in real change. I believe still people are fighting on petty issues including political leadership have similar attributes. When would be that day when India will be free from scams? When would be that time when people will get justice, when would be that time when human rights violations can be stopped. Lets all be ready for real change.

At the very onset, I must confess that I am not a Political or Social Scientist by profession!! As such my comment is solely the perception of an common man. Now coming back to the context, as I personally feel, "Change" is a relative term and variable according to personal perceptions. "Real Change" is a term which, with the addition of the adjective as the prefix makes it both debatable as well as elusive sometimes.
I must admit that I'm sorry, as I can not agree with you in full. There are issues where changes are there. However the degrees of changes vary from person to person. As an example, I can say when PCs started to come into Offices in 80's and Internet in mid '90s, little was thought/perceived about its all pervading use and that this can change India's economic scenario within a decade. But this happened.
If you go through the three successive National Family Health Surveys, you will find that the average life span on Indian gradually increased. So it is a change over each time. Admittedly, if you compare the present life span of Indian people with those of people of Japan and some advanced Countries it may not be very significant. You can very well call it "real change" in 'global perspective'
During 70's We had to import Wheat, Rice & other edible materials to feed our hungry millions. Now if you go through the Census reports of 71, 81, 91 & 2001, you will see significant increase in population and cereal import decreased to a great extent; on the contrary, we are exporting "Basmati" Rice to Foreign Countries! Thanks to the remarkable advancement made possible because of our Agricultural Scientists!!
I can recall of my first article presented in an International Conference abroad during mid80's, I still remember that I had mentioned our GDP per Capita as $352/-
As I see it now, it is nearly $2K. Isn't it a change? Of course, with the prevailing high inflation rate the effect of $2000/- gets diminished to a considerable extent. Calculating in the perspective of inflation, you can very well deduce the "real change"
Now, coming to the perspective of "Leadership" There is no denying that visions & policies adopted by the Leaders in Power from time to time have made this changes happen. Admittedly, they are equally responsible for the "Real Changes" which might be not so significant in real sense!
As you know, ours is a democratic Country and our leaders irrespective of their political inclination, can not act like those in Communist Countries or where dictatorship prevails. It is a fact that corruption prevails and unfortunately it is on the rise. The problem can be explained through an example: Suppose you are hungry and you entered into a hotel . You ordered for a plate of food and as you started eating, you discovered that the food id not good, you asked for another food stuff and discovered it equally stale! The hungry self has no alternative but to choose from the available dishes!! This is exactly which prevails everywhere including our political arena!!

I do agree with some of your analysis on economic change happening in India. But my point is that we have not seen major change so far as transformation of Indian society is concerned in multiple areas. We are still not in a position to come above the barriers of caste, religion, community, and chuvinistic effect is concerned. India,s comparison with other Asian powers like Japan and China is too difficult because these countries had passed transition period. Even you see the level of development which is happening in these states is remarkable. It is not about Chinese political system I am talking about but my question who has achieved how much progress in different sectors. Look at the infrastructure in India it is not comparable with other nations. Look at the inflation example is oil prices in Indian markets. Look at the unemployment rate. See the level of poverty still some people are earning less than 2 dollar. Look at the religious balkanisation and criminalisation of politics. Have u not seen medical facilitities available to Indian people many people die because of having no enough money to pay to the doctor. How many challenges I would count here. Look at the cases of rapes in India and also take into account the level of corruption...you can see how many people are in safe heavens in abroad because they have corruption charges. India can only become progressive when all these problems will be eradicated.India needs to achieve lot more to be a parralel power in the world.
The stark reality is that contesting elections in India requires a huge amount of money. The contestant collects the money from corporate houses to whom they have to return favour. They also collect money for contesting in the next election. So they are on a course of misappropriation right from the word go.
Your position regarding misappropriation of public funds is absolute reality. India needs to come out from this mess.
