We are carrying out trial in the glasshouse where we are comparing the infiltration rate in sodic soil in two different treatments Polyacrylamide vs organic matter ( lucerne pellet). within 27 days of reading, we are seeing way more infiltration rate in OM treatment compared to that of Polyacrylamide. What might be the reason behind this?
Both high water holding capacity and various functional groups and compounds in it.
Hi Arash, I too beleive OM addition leads to increase physical fertility like stable macroaggregate leading to increase infiltration rate. However, I was rather surprise to see OM effect in such a short time frame.
OM helps in pore geometry so I think addition of OM matter increased the porosity of soil and as your soil is sodic, OM also helps in reducing the dispersion.
