In our source rock studies, we take Tmax 435 deg C , as a maturity parameter and in immature samples this is less than 453 deg C. I want to understand why 435 deg C oven temperature denoting the S2 Peak maxima has been set as a maturity parameter and also would like to understand how kerogen kinetics influences Tmax.

Secondly what is S2 in an immature sample and in a mature sample.
