I'm using DigSILENT's EMT simulation to test a power distribution system. I simulated a steady-state fault and found an X value of RMS current. However, when I perform the EMT simulation and calculate the RMS current using the samples obtained, the calculated RMS current value is not the same as that provided by the simulation in steady state.

I think the fault current without running EMT is calculated based on the machine sub-transient reactance.
However, when you run the EMT, the plot will show fault current in sub-transient, transient and steady state period for which the current will be obviously different.
Moreover, total fault current is normally calculated by multiplying (peak current (Irms*sqrt(2)) with asymmetry factor (typically 1.6) which may be the reason why you might be getting different values
