I dont have much understanding of these stuffs but still i wonder how gravity affects the light. I mean does gravity applies some force on light ? And if it does apply some force so that light cannot escape black hole then why dont light accelerates and speed increases and if it doesnt apply force then why dont light come out from black hole ? Forgive me if my question is too childish i dont understand these stuffs but from my small knowledge bank i have asked this question
Well, it goes like this: Why does any body escape from earth's gravity? That is because it has enough velocity to defy the Earth's gravity. Now, light is also a particle- photon and is affected by gravity. The black hole is so massive (billions time the mass of our Sun) that it has enough gravitaional pull to even hold photon from escaping its gravity. That is the reason that even light can not escape the black hole. The gravitational force acts to pull the photon- so there is no question of 'accelerating' it. We are talking about light outside black hole and passing very close to it. It gets trapped by black hole.

It means that gravitational force has some effect on photons. If the light is not able to escape black holes it means it applies some force and that force attracts light to black holes.
sir i would like to add one imaginary seen. suppose we bring a light source near black holes then what would be the trajectory of light waves(or photon particles) that are going away from black hole and one that is going to black hole and others with some angle ????
Dear Sarvesh Singh, Keep in mind that yet there is rather strong evidence that black holes exist, as predicted by the theory. Also, it has not yet been possible to observe the effect of gravitational lensing near a black hole or to directly photograph the dark disk surrounding a black hole.

we have not yet proved the existence of black holes but still we have got many proofs of existence of black holes. like on black is predicted right at the center of our own milky way galaxy.
we study the behavior of black holes and people say that it has so strong gravitational force that it attracts light. This fact that light can be attracted by gravity doesnt feel good in my mind.
If a light source is brought from infinity to near black hole then what would be variation of direction of light rays ?
Dear Sarvesh Singh, Yes, we both are agreeing that evidence doesn't mean existence and nonexistence cannot deny about the proofs. So, the situation is "ambiguous". Being researcher, it is our duty to explain the things so that a common man cannot victim of misguidance or faith. Otherwise, Survesh you and me both heard many stories from our grand mums.
Yes, if it happens then Gravitational lensing phenomenon of Einstein will surely, work in this case.
