Hello, I am doing some analytical calculation on evaporation during laser beam additive manufacturing process. Due to the high temperature in the process, some elements of the alloy get evaporated. So, their concentration in the alloy after the process should be lower than their initial concentration. However, I noticed that, for a few elements (i.e: Niobium), the concentration actually increases after evaporation. Can you please inform me why does this happen ? Is it due to the condensation due to which they get back to the alloy? Thanks, Faiyaz

I think, you need estimate which of the alloying elements composing your alloys has the highest vapor pressure at the operating temperatures. By this way you will be able to expect which element will evaporate more intensively And then check its after-procesding concentration. Probably, in the case with Nb you have described, the most active evaporating element was some other one. Just after the overall composition had changed due to the alloy depletion, the new-calculated concentration of Nb really increased. I would check this possibility.
In my opinion diffusion of the element Nb has to be checked. It seems that diffusion of Nb from bulk to surface is taking place along with evaporation due to high temperature. I consider that you are measuring the concentration of Nb on the surface.
