It is known that resistivity of a rock formation varies according to its geological age. For example, intrusive rocks like granite and gabbro of quarternary-tertiary age have a resistivity range of 500-2000 ohm-m where as the same rocks of Precambrian age have a resistivity range of 5000 to 20,000 ohm-m. The same holds good in case of sedimentary (marine and tertiary) rocks, extrusives etc. In general, with increasing age of rocks the resistivity range goes on widening and resistivity values go on increasing. What is the reason for this variation of resistivity of rocks with age?
