The important Non Communicable Diseases ( NCD ) are Diabetes Mellitus , Hypertension , Dyslipidemia & Obesity . This is due to environmental , social & genetic factors . These diseases lead to coronary artery disease , strokes & chronic kidney diseases . Smoking leads to cancer & COPD . Public health & health care are the 2 institutions which play an important role in these diseases . Public health plays an important role in prevention of these diseases in society , by suggesting lifestyle modifications .Health care is involved in providing primary , secondary & tertiary care facilities & is done at the individual level . Primary care is very important in diagnosis & management of these patients . Unfortunately social inequalities play an important role , in that these facilities are grossly inadequate for lower socioeconomic groups . Treatment of diabetes mellitus & hypertension are lifelong, which can be done in primary care & management of complications has to be done at secondary & tertiary care . I feel that apart from poor life style habits , inadequate public health & health care facilities play an important role in NCD prognosis due to social inequalities .
