This problem occurs during RDE measurement on a catalyst. After measurement, it became burned. Then I polished it by abrasive paper to smooth its surface and then 0.5 um Al slurry. But the measurement was not successful, it was again burned? What cause it? Is there any electric conduct problem? Please give me comments.
Yes, it might be problem due to electrical contact. Ask yours vendor for real approach.
Regarding of electrode cleaning better use diamond paste in prior then alumina slurry. I hope it will work more efficiently.
Connections also measurements. Which range potential are you using?
If has any electric contact wrong, with a multimeter you will observe.
I guess your electrode is GC. For polishing, Depends how much destroy it is, I use sand paper, with minor grain (the lowest as I have), Alumina (1um)-Nylon cloth, Alumina (0.05 um)-fabrique cloth, sequentially, and check by CVs.

are you completely sure that your reference electrode has a contact with the measurement solution and is connected to the potentiostat? the potentiostats use to apply random voltage to the working electrode when there's no reference...
Hi Oyunbileg, From your description it is most probably the Ref. electrode as mentioned before. even a bubble inside or out side the reference electrode can cause (high) voltage oscillation to the working electrode. another option is that the GC disk is not in-contact with its lead due to pushing the RDE too strong into the shaft.
Try first with a Pt/Au/Ni electrode in the same setup to keep your GC alive.

As mentioned above, it might be a Reference electrode contact problem, or the tip is not in contact with the shaft. you can check that from the CV. or simply use a Voltmeter to check the voltage passing in your cell and output of your functional generator.
