Hi,

I have been trying to revive an old Continuum Minilite series laser.  The main problem it has is that after a short period of running the measured laser power drops significantly (approx 160 mW to begin with, dropping to ~50 mW after 20 minutes of running).

  • My testing so far has suggested that the pump is operating as it should do according to specification and that the cooling system is fine. We do not think that heating of the cavity is the problem.
  • The flashlamp has also recently been replaced as part of this project that has not cured the problem.
  • Lamp voltages have been checked and readjusted but the problem remains
  • The cavity optics (mirrors/waveplates) have been optimised and then readjusted after the power has fallen to try and correct the problem.  No improvement is seen, it lowers power output.
  • After powering down the system and leaving for a while, the system can then be restarted and the same initial power (~160 mW) is observed.

Something I would like to try out if falling power over time could be systematic of anything specific when dealing with Nd:YAG pulse laser systems.

Any ideas, suggestions or advice in fixing this problem or further trouble shooting would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Martin.
