Why deltaCPD= -SPV ?

I've found in Surface photovoltage phenomena:

theory, experiment, and applications, (L. Kronik and Y.Shapira) that in Kelvin Probe measurement delta CPD = -SPV, and I know that is true, but I'm looking for explanation for that 'minus'.
