As there are specific primers why all the labs are doing Realtime PCR (qPCR) instead of conventional Reverse transcription PCR.
Because all the labs are not equipped with qPCR. If we could use conventional PCR more diagnostic tests can be done in many functioning small molecular lab in developing countries?

RTqPCR is more sensitive than conventional Reverse Transcription PCR. A highly sensitive technique is required for viral detection and this a must in case of
covid-19 infection. We cannot afford to miss out on positive samples which have low viral copies as it could increase the risk of transmission. RTqPCR quantifies the RNA in the sample and a detection limit of 100-1000 copies/ml can be detected. Moreover, it does not have any post PCR and data processing.
On the other hand, in conventional Reverse Transcription PCR, the agarose gel is the end point detection which is less sensitive and not very precise. It may not be able to detect small changes in the sample and the resolution can also be poor. Moreover, it is time consuming and will have a negative impact on Covid-19 testing. Covid-19 test results must be provided at the earliest so that either treatment or quarantine can be carried out without delay in order to avoid the infection from spreading.
So, even if many small molecular laboratories can afford conventional Reverse Transcription PCR, RT-QPCR test is always advisable for the diagnosis of
Covid-19 infection.
