12 July 2025 2 764 Report

"How many days have passed since the 24th of August 2021?" is what I asked ChatGPT today on the 12th of July 2025. I received the following answer:

"To calculate how many days have passed since August 24, 2021, to today, July 12, 2025, we can break it down:

  • From August 24, 2021 to August 24, 2022 = 365 days (2022 was not a leap year).
  • From August 24, 2022 to August 24, 2023 = 365 days.
  • From August 24, 2023 to July 12, 2025:
    • From August 24, 2023 to August 24, 2024 = 366 days (2024 is a leap year).
    • From August 24, 2024 to July 12, 2025 = -43 days (we need to subtract the days from Aug 24 to July 12, which is 43 days short of a year).
  • So:

    • 365 + 365 + 366 = 1,096
    • 1,096 - 43 = 1,053 days

✅ Final Answer: 1,053 days have passed since August 24, 2021."

As you may have noticed, ChatGPT forgot to include an entire year! The correct answer is 1,418 days, a calculation that Google had absolutely no problems with.

Why can't ChatGPT perform this simple calculation? In other words, how can it make such a mistake? Anyone an idea? Thanks!
