Why are we likely to overestimate the weight fraction of Ni from the WDS spectrum of a specimen containing Ni and Ag?

Notice that the K-electrons in Ag are significantly more tightly bound than in Ni. If you use the K-lines for the two elements in your analysis, then in general, the higher the Z-number, the lower the peak area for the same fraction of the element. This is due to the energy dependence of the interaction cross section. These effects could introduce experimental uncertainty in the evaluated atomic fractions.
