I am working on a study on pharmaceutical fate and uptake in plants. We are wondering about analyte degradation during the initial transport, processing, and storage of the soil and plant samples, before they are extracted. Could surrogates be added at the time of processing/freezing, to measure this loss? Why are surrogates typically only added at the time of extraction?
