from my point of view, books are very important because they show pathways in life . Books teaches people about society. Learning to Read is important it helps to develop the mind before computers were around many many decades ago. And for you why important??
A most basic reason is that the written word is a much better memory of the oral word.
Constant and periodic reading is strongly associated with cognitive reserve in adulthood and it's considered a protective factor for cognitive decline! We are working with a Cognitive Reserve Questionnaire and some items inquire about reading habits!
For me, they give a window on other worlds and lifestyles and locales I never imagined or thought possible. They introduce new views, ideas and concepts, and make me think about the what-ifs. That's why I got into writing.
As an aside, here's a quote that I live by. It encapsulates not only a writer's journey but a reader's as well. “Writing may not make you wealthy, but it is one of the few jobs in the world that expands your outlook on life, opens new borders, and nourishes your soul.”

Not all books! Religious books eliminated the need for the so-called oral traditions. There are classic books that break new grounds and there are simple books with great circulation but little use. Generally, books represent a vehicle to preserve and share knowledge even if you don't have access to eBook!

Books our companion . A storage of knowledge which help us to develop our faculty of mind & brain . We all know that our mind & brain are thinking process of our action of life & in this line the knowledge we get thru books become our guiding factor for our process moving towards our life action .

Book is an educational tool.Education is light while ignorance is darkness.
By reading books, a person can step in the enlightened room of knowledge from the darkness of ignorance.
Medical books and medical viruses .. Add books related to scientific research and books to learn scientific research skills.
Well, that depends on the kind of the books, but all books provide a portal to great information, mental and spiritual development. Sometimes books like novels or stories provide solace in a time of loneliness and distress.
I love all kinds of books.
Books are like treasure to me. Apart from the aesthetics they give me knowledge in the shortest possible time which could have taking me a century to acquire. However, my preference is eBooks.
