I explored to find the first paper published related to additive manufacturing/ rapid prototyping. I found the first paper published in 1981 (Automatic method for fabricating a three dimensional plastic model with photo hardening polymer: http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.1136492 ). If this is not first paper, please either tell me the first paper or suggest me the source to know it.

It says there that first patent by Japanese Dr Kodama Rapid prototyping was developed and granted in 1980.
