We may know that self-compassion is a new concept for western psychology, according to Kristin Neff's work, I understood the meaning, composition and function of this concept. However, I've been seraching a lot for finding a theory that involves concept of self-compassion. Does anyone can give me some help?
The commandment of "love to your neighbour as yourself" (Leviticus) was not a theory of self-compassion, it is a reality that one treates oneself well generally.

Current object relations psychoanalytic theory has quite a bit on self-compassion. Its theory suggest that how an individual relates to himself or herself is a reflection of how their various internal objects ( in this case, self-objects) relate to each other. An individual who hate themselves will have their self-objects attacking and destroying each other. Therapy would involve moving them from this hateful object relation to one where the self objects are kind and understanding of each other , which may be called a self compassion object relations. If you are interested in this theory i can give you further reading in this area.

1) for general introduction to Object Relations Theory - see "Object Relations in Psychoanalytic Theory by Greenberg & Mitchell , Harvard University Press 1983
2) for specifically on self compassion - this term is not used often in psychoanalytic literature. The idea of the capacity to love is used instead, including self -love and self hate - see Chapter 3 in "Love and Hate - Psychoanalytic Perspectives by David Mann, Routledge Publishers.New York 2011.
