This is a qualitative research which should be supported by some existing theory or theoretical framework. Since this is the very first research that I am involved with, I have little idea about the appropriate theoretical frameworks. The subject of our research is to find out influencing factors for students' success and failure in tertiary level mathematics courses in the perspective of both students and teachers.

From some articles, I have found that if there is no "perfect" theory for a qualitative research, then it should be called an "Exploratory research" and "Grounded theory/Interpretive theory" is more likely to be adopted to support it. Is it correct ?

Thanks in advance.
