Hi,

We use EN 10045-1 and ASTM E23-12c for charpy impact tests of steels. The samples are machined with a notch and then a hammer is struck against the sample using gravity to get an impact energy. Not sure whether this is applicable for you/your material.

Greetings Mr Velavan,

1.0-To perform Impact test,

1.1-You may consider ASTM E-23 as Thomas mention; which is a Charpy /Izod impact test for metallic material (notched/unnotched). In my previous research, I performed Charpy impact test according to ASTM E-23 as it is a sandwich material (composite and thin layer aluminium sandwiched). this standard caters to sub size the specimen. You may refer to the standard. Specimen size ( length (55mm) x width (10mm) x thickness (2.5mm/5mm/7.5mm/10mm/20mm), the thickness is sub-sized in this case. Moreover, you may also perform edgewise impact(different orientation hammer impact). Besides that ASTM D6110 and ISO 179 also can be referred to perform impact test with small size specimens.

1.2 For drop impact test you may refer ASTM D3763, ASTM D 7136 and EN ISO 6603-1, depends on your material and the application. For this test, it requires big size of specimens (100mm x 100 mm (length x width)

2.0-For the flexural test, you may refer to ASTM D790 and ASTM D7264/D 7264M. Depends on your material thickness the support span length are calculated. the formulas are given in the standard.
