Obviously, knowing what you have already would be helpful. Nevertheless, I hope the attached road-paving papers may prove to be useful for you with regards to the fundamentals and the origins. If not, then this is a consequence of my being underinformed.
For further groundwork, I suggest reading Vickers, Ackoff and C.West Churchman. Ackoff, in particular, concentrated on the link between management theory and systems theory.
