From my point of view, it is definitely the Matlab (especially if you possess any in-house MoM/FEM/...). You can write down your own code with all the features you want :)

Nevertheless... CST-MWS and FEKO are very good.

Just to add, most of commercial EM software allow visualization of J and E along surfaces, e.g., HFSS, SEMCAD, xFDTD, so IMHO it is difficult to tell which one gives the best visualization of field display, its more about personal taste and familiarity with a particular software.

For Antenna Design and simulations, you can use CST Microwave, you can simulations EM field, efeck mechanical, 3D model, and other.

HFSS has good compatibility with planar structures like patch and array antennas

I guess in terms of visualization every commercial software has good features. What matters is the user friendliness. For that I am sure CST MWS is the best, IE3d is also cool. The last one to pick is COMSOL, only if you have tons of available hours to learn it.

Go for CST Microwave Studio, you can get an evaluation license if you don't want to keep it forever. CST's user interface is very simple and convenient to use

You can use Ansoft HFSS or Comsol Multiphysics with the RF module.

Usually all full wave 3D electromagnetic simulation softwares have good hand in this. Every one recommends that which he utilizes more. In my personal opinion Ansoft HFSS is a great software for all types of fields, current densities and other EM parameters.

I have been using Ansoft HFSS for a while it its performance is good, the only problem it simulation time and processor overload. Also, Antenna Magus is a pretty fast software to run with easy display of antenna properties!

i have used HFSS, it gives good view of surface current and electric field intensity compared to Feko and IE3D

I used IE3D (zeland company) for the current distribution and electric field intensity, it is good specially for passive antennas

I am using SEMCAD X which performs well with complex geometry.

Usually, the 3-D electromagnetic simulators using FE or FDTD or FIT or MoM techniques. Some of those electromagnetic solvers using hybrid techniques, i. e., FDTD and MoM.

Returning back to your question, any electromagnetic solver using MoM is suitable for modeling and design of planer antenna.

I suggest Feko for the case you are talking about.

I used IE3D simulator based on MoM and one of the best antenna simulation software particularly for planar antennas. The current density can be seen at any frequency of entire band of applications.

I have used both IE3D and CST. The IE3D is suitable for planar design. It is really easy to draw, adjust, change, move and create the intelligent port. Also, it is closed with measurement. However, due to IE3D based on MoM, it takes time to simulate the large structure. For CST, it is really good for 3-D and also has several special functions that IE3D cannot simulate ie FSS, EBG characteristics. However, when you want to use the CST, you MUST understand your structure especially modes, port excitation, how to create materials. If I can vote these software for ONLY planar. I choose IE3D.

Normally, i used IE3D or FEKO to simulate with the low-density of meshcell. Of course, it takes just few minutes to get the first design and very fast to finish the parametric study for antenna design. Next step, i use CST to finish with the higher density of density and also more accurate. HFSS is also used for antenna design but it takes more time with the method of MoM. :)

for planar antennas with small size as microstrip antennas HFSS is suitable to view surface current. also, for for planar antennas with larger size and kind of used antenna CST is better.

Try SEMCAD X. I am working with this software since 2006. You can simulate all EM problems from low frequency to optical. You can also design and simulate all kind of antennae including planar antenna. This Software uses; FDTD, ADI-FDTD, FIT/C-FDTD, FIT/C-ADI-FDTD techniques and also has Low Frequency Solver: Electro Static, Staionary Current .., Electro Quasi Static, Magneto Quasi Static, Magento Static (Bio-Savart), and Magneto Hydro Dynamic.
