If you prefer a graphic environment, then OPMET or Omnet++. OPNET is reliable and with very good documentation but recently was purchased from Riverbed and they increased license prices. NS2 and NS3 is a choice if you have good programming skills.
Its an open source programing tool so there is no issue of copy right I think.
There is also OMNeT++ and J-Sim. I would recommend OPNET, since it is powerful and has a lot of developed examples and libraries. You can look to a comparison paper between them:

If you like Matlab, then Prowler is a nice free toolbox for simulation of for example wireless adhoc networks. Widespread commercial software are Qualnet (nice but expensive) and Opnet (limited number of free licenses are available for universities, but they have to be renewed regularly).
You can also use Network Simulator ( NS2 or NS3) wich is free and open source. Moreover, many modules are available. It is in particular suitable and widely used by researchrs and industrials for simulating wireless networks. You need to be a good programmer in langage C++ and TCL to use NS2, and langage C++ tu use NS3. Good luck

I prefer GNS3 because it use a real operation system images on a virtual machine like vmware and Vbox , so it an Emulator over than simulator and as u get the best design , u can burn the image to be a real OS can be used on any pc.
Apart from the ones you mentioned, I would say PlanetSim, OPSS (P2P), OMNeT..
Apart from the simulators that you've mentioned, other simulators that you can consider are OMNeT++ with its various frameworks for specific work like Castalia for BAN n WSN, MiXiM, Veins, etc. OMNeT++ is also open spurce and GUI based. There is Glomosim also. others are Jsim, Ptolemy, NS3, NS-miracle for cross layered work.
NCTUns - a GUI based Ns2 version is also useful for wireless simulation
So, thanks for all the researchers, students and teachers on the answers, It means in general there are many simulators that can be used like NS2, Qualnet, Opnet and omnet as much famous in the list. Simply based on our requirements and skills. ADS is also good for microwave engineering
I've used OPNET in my simulation for WSN. OPNET is industrial standard hence support and reliable for R&D.
NETSIM, OPNET, QUALNET, PLANETSIM are the well known simulators for wireless standards.

Free simulators my recommendations are OMNeT++ or NS3, big community, a lot of models.

I personally use Omnet++.
It is free for academic purposes, open-sources, and has many advantages over NS, in my opinion!
It is simpler to use, since the code is much more well-organized, APIs are very complete, and it has a big community (also very kind :) )
Also, it already provides a lot of models, which can be found directly in the omnet site.

Please consider also that neither HFSS nor AWR are intended to simulate communication networks, rather they are microwave solvers for signal integrity, EM field analysis and so on. Practically they are very useful if you have to design antennas, for example.
In the choice of a simulator you should also verify how much time you have to spend to implement your model and how much time then remains for your "real" work, that are simulation analysis!
In this case, I would prefer Omnet++ or NS3 which are the "academic" gold standards for simulations.
Opnet is also a choice, but it costs, and it is closed source. This can means that you may experience some problem in implementing new models from scratch, yet it is feasible.

I have worked with opnet and now I work with Omnet++, OPNET is a wonderful tool, a lot of models, a lot of commercial elements modeled, but I have found two problems for my research. First, I work with experimental models, in this case the utility of a “ready to use” model is relative, it is more important a clean base model that implement the base functionality and that you could modify and you could easily to develop your experimental protocols, the models that I have found in OPNET they were too complex, it was useful if you want to simulate build a real network with commercial components but less useful if you really need to develop your protocol. Second, the license model, I work in different places (at home, my office, in the laboratories) and the license model of opnet limits my flexibility, this two circumstances were the reason to change to other simulator, in this time the alternatives were NS2 and OMNET, ns2 with a lot of models but with an awful source code, and OMNET, less models but easier to use. Now exists also Ns3, that like omnet, also present a clean, easy to modify code. For this reasons I recommend OMNET or NS3, the election will depends, which of them are used by the rest of your research group, and, if the model that you need is already included in one of them.

I think that opnet modeler is good platform for network..
The advanced versions of opnet (after version 14.5) supports wireless communication networks like zigbee, wimax, umts, and lte.
i think qualnet simulator from scalable network is also an option to carry out simulation of communication network such as umts,WiMax,ZigBee,LTE.But its cost is high for single research Licence.
If you want to work in the field of wireless sensor network then castalia is a good option
IT'S DEPEND .HFSS AND AWR IS WORK FOR MICROWAVE ANTENNA DESIGN.NS2 AND NS3 IS THE WIRELESS SIMULATOR.
OPNET especially for cellular radio networks and also NS2 and NS3 are appropriate.
Feko software is also good for designing and simulating of antennas .
Lab View software is also good.
NS 3 is a good choice. I am a new learner of NS3. Many articles talks about comparison among simulators,like "A Performance Comparison of Network Simulators for Wireless Networks". You can look for it online.
There are plenty of them. The choice depends on what simulation model you wanna use. To the best of my knowledge, the most used ones are :
Free open source : NS-3 (successor of NS-2), OMNET++.
Commercial : OPNET, QUALNET (commercial version of GloMoSim).
free:NS2(or 3),omnet++;no free: opnet. i think the opnet to be more powerful than others.

Also, you can search about NS3
Matlab can be little used
Opnet is the best as you can add hardware and create a partial simulation and partial real-time scenario.
