I want to test the performance of my own authentication protocol. To be more clear, my protocol is for IMS network. and i don't really know which tool should be used (omnet++ , opnet....??). Or should I use a tool related to IMS network?

thanks Nidhi i wanna ask just one more thing. Actually my protocol use authentication based on Elliptic curve cryptography is it possible and easier to this with Omnet++ or with NS2 or any other tool?

Talking about options I would say NS-3 is also a good one. So, OMNeT++ and NS-3 seem to me the best options. You can check which one has models closer or similar to the protocol you want to implement, this way you can use it as a starting point.
OMNeT is a free tool and can be used for the same. Another option is QualNet, which is a professional version, but also works good if available. NS2/ NS3 seems to be little harder and with take significant amount of time to start with for the beginners.
I prefer NS2 as it is open source code ... you can change anything after having a handle on the source code .... however, for the source code understanding excellent documentation exists for ns2 .... moreover a huge support of already developed features exist ... results are well proven and internationally accepted in research community ..... however it may take some time for anybody to get familiarized. You get a rich set of features for performance evaluation ... however the ultimate choice remains on the researcher.

Does NS2 allow to evaluate a sip traffic ( to the best of my knowledge the traffic sources in NS2 are : FTP , CBR and telnet??)
Does NS2 allow to interact with a database? it's import in my protocol to have a databases
