There are various SAR bands and polarizations. X band (TerraSAR-X and CosmoSkyMed), C Band (RADARSAT and Sentinel-1) and L band(Kompsat 5 & ALOS-2). X and C band could scatter from rough surfaces as they have short wavelengths. On the other hand L band has longer wavelength.
I want to classify crops with different structures such as corn and cotton using SAR. We are planning to use X band imagery but it could not be useful due to its short wavelength. I am considering C band Sentinel-1 imagery but its resolution is coarse compared to commercial ones.
What do you suggest?

i would stay away from L band. As the frequency lowers you will get more penetration through the crop perhaps and just image the terrain beneath the crop?
It seems that C band is more suitable.
L band has 23cm length, Corn grows upto 2 meters and cotton could grow upto 60cm. One limitation of L band is that we could not observe them sufficiently at their emergence. While they cover very small percentage in emergence, X and C band will mostly have data which are reflected from the soil itself I think.
I think the both C & L band area useful for the above mentioned crops as they can penetrate more than X- band.
