I started qualitative research study thinking of Grounded Theory approach in mind and using semi-structured interviews as data collection method. I had identified several potential participants at that time and had consent from most of them. I wanted to go with theoretical saturation and concurrent data collection and data analysis. My original intent was to do the constant comparison to a develop a theory.

However, due to nature of the industry, there were only "handful" of participants and most of those were kind of 'grab me now or forget' type. Therefore, I had to grab the participants at the soonest opportunity. This resulted into completing all the interviews at much higher pace than I could code or analyze for emerging themes. Due to less time, I did not have time to do the constant comparison between one interview to another to guide the direction of research. So I devised a simple framework to list big ideas and key impressions immediately after each interview which allowed me to hash out unanswered or new questions which I could ask the subsequent participants.

I had to finish the interview in less than 3 months. Soon my target participant list was exhausted with no more consenting participants. Now situation I have is massive interview data (transcribed) and 70% initial coded.

I am wondering my research does not qualify for GT methodology anymore given data collection and data analysis did not happen concurrently. Is there anyone who can tell me if I could still continue to apply GT?

Or Is there any other methodology I could apply in this instant given I have mass of pre-collected data. Is it advisable to apply Thematic analysis or Template analysis in this situation especially when I have already collected full data? My original intent was to develop a theory. However, I am okay with developing a model or framework or relationship of patterns from data in regards to the phenomenon under question.

Does someone have any such experience or guidance?
