MDPI (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute), a current publisher of 375 open access peer-reviewed journals, has an open policy aimed at providing an accelerated process for publishing science research articles. There are many ways to evaluate the quality of MDPI journals as outlets for reporting research within different science disciplines. Most scientists commonly use Impact Factor (IF) as a means to rate the quality of journals in each discipline. The impact factor (IF), reported annually for each journal, is a measure of the frequency with which the average article in a particular journal has been cited in a particular year. It is used to measure the relative importance or rank of a journal by calculating the times it's articles are cited. However, there are many other criteria (besides IF) for judging the quality of specific MDPI journals which include personal experiences with each journal, differences in the editorial staff in charge of each journal, and widely varying opinions among scientists on their philosophies regarding the processes and practices used in accelerated publishing for each journal. The main aim of this question is to determine which individual MDPI journals are the best for specific science disciplines, and in particular, the reasons why certain MDPI journals are better than others for each discipline (i.e., other than reasons related to IF scores).
