We can use different kind of microbes for lipid production. Fatty acid profile would vary with biomass of microbes. Which microbes produce superior quality biodiesel.
bacteria, yeast and algae produce oil for biodiesel production, but if we talk about quality and quantity wise microalgae yields maximum oil for biodiesel production.
Many of the microbes produce oil which can be converted to biodiesel. Now algae, among them, has very good potential and is very promising. Many of the algae like Nannochloropsis has very high oil content. On the other hand some fungus like Cryptococcus curvatus can produce oil. So, finally, from my perspective, algae is most promising.
Though many one is recommending algal biodiesel including me, it is unfortunate that it has not come into common practice anywhere in the world. We need much more positive research to bring something fruitful.
