The essential variable is the stability of the levels of ammonia. The carrrying capacity of individuales to be added to culture system will depend of the available food via authoctonous (natural) or induced artificially.
If you have an extensive data set already of shrimp growth, nutrients, food assimilation or feeding techniques, shrimp biomass etc. I would suggest modeling such as the DEB model etc.. I would recommend a discussion with my colleague Ramón Filgueira which you can find on ResearchGate. He will be happy to adivse you on this subject. Dr. Filgueira is a modeler which specializes in aquaculture interactions with coastal and estuaries systems.
thank you for your advice, I will take into account eacch one to go in depth about this issue. My concern is that literature and even our Mexican regulation mention a lot, the importance to know "carrying capacity" of ecosystemes, regarding economic activities. But besides some methods to measure nutrients or trophic state in coastal water bodies, like TRIX index, I have not found, until now, references on carrying capacity measures. Hi Arturo, I'd suggest that you look at the productivity and other data on lagoons more or less similar to your own. You'll probably arrive at a range "from to". It would give you an idea, and for practical reasons and until you have applied the models and other scientific means, also a practical guidance. MB-Y
