Many manufacturing compaies have implemented Industry 4.0 technologies to a certain extent. The question is to what extent. Examples for highly developed plants in Germany include Siemens at Amberg, Bosch at Homburg, or Festo at Esslingen, among many further. However, those mainly include single plants. It remains a huge challenge to integrate an entire production network into Industry 4.0, within an enterprise and also with its suppliers.
A showcase regarding the support of lean principles by Industry 4.0 can be found at SEW: https://www.sew-eurodrive.de/company/your_success/future_trends/industry-40/basics/showcase_factory/showcase_factory.html
Thank you for your informative response in identifying such industries. I have reviewed quite a number of articles and what I have discovered is that most of the manufacturing industries are only having test beds/pilot studies and it seems as if there is no real applications except from the automobile industries.
