Which light can I use to sampling in the dark?
I'm trying to design plant experiments in the dark.
I made a dark room for plants, but if I want to take a samples, it's not evitable lightening to plants to look and experiment with the naked eyes..
I heard that far-red light doesn't effect to plant's condition.
However, far-red light also affect to growth of plants based on survey results.
Any ideas for installing light bulbs which doesn't affect plant's growth?
(1) No dark room is completely dark. There is always some residual light. If residual light has level of about 0.001 lux, one can use it for visualization using night vision image intensifier based goggles.
(2) If you can use thermal imager (room temperature operation bolometric FPA) based goggles you can see in total darkness using LWIR (long wavelength infra red - around 10 micrometers) part of spectrum without any artificial illumination.
(3) Human eye is sensitive in the visible spectrum (380 to 780 nm). In the case that process you are tracking is not sensitive for some wavelengths in the visible spectrum you can use any source accompanied with narrow band filter, or LED emitting at that wavelength. Mother nature "designed" plants to use sun light covering in fully visible spectral region, so I do not believe that it could be possible.
(4) If your sampling process is fast and you do not do it to often you can use any visible low intensity source (sufficient just to see) for few minutes daily without disturbing your dark room experiment conditions.
