We are melting silicate glasses and need to aproach 1600C. Does a 95%Pt, 5%Au crucible have a good mechanical performance up to this temperature?
Thank you Simon!
If Pt is a must, better use any one of the following:
1.95/5(Pt/Ru); Vicker hardness (130-210); up to (1780-1795C).
2.95/5(Pt/Co) ; Vicker hardness (135-270); up to( 1680-1770)
[slightly ferromagnetic].
3.90/10(Pt/Ir) ; Vicker hardness (110)0 ; up to1780-1800C.
Otherwise there are many non Pt crucibles which can be used even up to 2500C.
If asked; can send their % composition and the maximum temperature limits.
In our lab we plan to perform some DFT calculations on glasses. Is there available any database of cluster of atoms with a glassy structure (silica or any other glass), which we can take as...
