I would like to estimate maximum species richness for an ichthyoplankton assemblage. I am using BiodiversityR library with R. I tried first and second order jackknife estimates of maximum species richness and chao index. Each of them gives slightly different results. I would like to ask what the main practical differences among these indices are. Is there any tool to decide wich index gives more accurate results?
There are all very similar.
I'd use Chao2 which is also consideres species only sampled in a single sample site and also species sampled in exactly two sample sites)
ACE could be a good option if you have abundance data. But i would expect big differences between estimators

I examined "The tree diversity analysis" book. Richness indices are not considered in detail in this manual. Cesar's suggestion is exactly what i need. I think there is not a detailed evaluation for pelagic habitats in literature, but (hopefully) we can generalize these results.
