I am trying to realize some temperature estimation from Landsat 8 Images: I am studying some Split Windows (SW) methodos. I prefer the first one, but do you have any suggestion?
The question of which Split Window (SW) Algorithm is better for estimation of Land Surface Temperature (LST) using the two thermal bands (Band 10 & band 11) of Landsat 8 Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) is a tricky one. The main reason is due to the 'Stray Light' effect which increases the reported temperature in Band 10 by 4°K and 8°K in Band 11 respectively. As you can read in the attached notice from USGS, it is not recommended to apply the SW on L8 TIRS for scientific studies. Therefore, I have been using the Single Channel (SC) or Mono Window (MW) algorithm on Band 10 for some science applications. But if your aim is to only study which SW is better, then I think it would be advisable to look into a review article of LST which talks about various linear and non-linear SWs and their advantages and disadvantages.
