I would like to know the freely accessible software name for making the graphical abstract and illustrated diagrams for research publications. Sharing the link will be useful to several researchers.
If you are looking to create graphics, there are many bitmap and vector tools which are free. I would suggest you consider those that are also open-source as they typically are available on multiple operating systems. Here are alternatives for each:
GIMP (www.gimp.org)
GIMP is a robust bitmap editing software. Key features: customizable interface, digital retouching, photo enhancement (using transform tools), supports most file types, layer management support
Inkscape (inkscape.org)
Inkscape is a free and open source powerful vector design tool for illustrators and web designers. It includes professional quality cross-platform graphics tools which can be used for creating illustrations, icons, logos, diagrams, maps and web graphics. Featuring sophisticated drawing tools in-par with other vector graphics editors, it can import and export various file formats to work with, with a simple interface and options to customize functionalities with add-ons.
LibreOffice Draw (www.libreoffice.org)
LibreOffice is a free and open-source office suite and includes a number of applications. LibreOffice Draw is a vector graphics editor and diagramming tool included in the suite which lets you produce from a quick sketch to a complex professional diagram. Draw is an excellent application to create drawings, posters, curves and much more.
Paint.Net (www.getpaint.net)
Windows only, not open-source. Paint.net is a free and very capable image editing software for Windows. Great alternative to Photoshop for people that do not need all the stuff PS offers.
Thank you Ibrahim, Nibedita and Ed sarfeld for letting know about mentioned tools. I will try your suggestions to create insightful graphical presentation.
Thanks for asking this useful question on the behalf of all researchers. I can see many valuable suggestions over here. I am using Chem bio draw ultra for graphical abstract design.
The graphical abstracts are used in article to make the readers interest and clear understanding. You may try this to draw your graphical images. Graphical abstract drawing at very low cost (Starting price: 35 USD for 2D image) use the link: https://www.facebook.com/grapicmaster/ All you have to do is send a pencil drawing of your concept to be illustrated to them they will draw accordingly. Once drawn the graphical image of your illustration you can see the image and pay for it. It is very flexible and precise.
ChemBioDraw is an effective solution for drawing various scientific images. If you have it this will give you effective images and option to save the files in different formats too (JPEG, TIFF, EMP .. etc.). Rest BioRender is another great option but is paid one.
