Yes it is possible to collect the CSF by puncturing with needle attached to a butterfly collecting tube (similar set up generally used for blood collections in humans) at cisterna magna without opening. It is more or less like a lumbar puncture in humans, But you really need to practice to get the feeling where to puncture exactly (gap between the neck and spine) without bleeding. you can collect from 25 to 90µl per time, but can varies based on the animal age and size.
