In a modern ophthalmic setup assistants may send to the doctors images over the internet to diagnose retinal diseases. Which model do you think is the best for this aim?
I wanted to ask this question because I believe that in the very next future we will face a reduction of the number of available doctors in our NHS and I think that telemedicine will help us to address patients towards the right direction in order to be taken in charge correctly. In this case I would like to understand if it possible to image retinal tears and holes to correctly prescribe LASER therapy.
Well then, the Zeiss CLARUS 500 has an ultra wide field. No matter what camera you'll buy, the trick will be to let "ophthalmologists" take the pictures and not "technicians" so they can spot retinal tears/holes and know where to look in the peripheral retina

From 2017/18 onwards Zeiss Clarus 500 - if you only want to do fundus photography (perfect ultra-widefield imaging, true-color, montage function, no distortions); Zeiss Clarus 700 if you want to add FA.
The Mirante and Clarus are both amazing machines. They will probably be unmatched for years to come in terms of the quality of imaging. The issue with these machines is the cost. Retivue plans to release a low cost widefield camera for diabetic retinopathy screening. If and when they do that, it may be a good solution for community DR screening.
