The question raised by a younger researcher raised interest in related groups. Answers uploaded are logical, but it raises a further question in my mind: out of many, which is the best method/way of distinguishing between physical and chemical adsorption?

Normally, physical adsorption involves short range Vander Waal-London forces which diminish with the increase in temperature. The chemi-sorption involves bond formation with the adsorption sites and likely to increase with temperature due to more effective collisions with the surface.

physical chemistry have low enthalpy adsorption so you can investigate the thermodynamic parameters and compare for adsorption type
