Published research on a paper is the right road for any researcher. In my opinion, the researcher should choose carefully where to publish. Most Journals have Impact Factor indicate their influence in the field, the conference proceeding depends on the quality of the conference, some conferences are widely known in the field and have a very good reputation. Some researchers are obligated to publishing deadlines and they resort to conferences, as some journals requirements and response is very slow. its all depend on the researcher, if he is looking for fast publishing, conference is the way, otherwise, I advice to publish in a journal with high Impact Factor.

Dear Dony, In my opinion a journal is so much better because those are generally peer reviewed while a proceeding contents only abstracts and not always follows the rule of scientific publication styles.

Both are same it only depends on the level of People participating in the conference or the impact points the journal owns on publication... both are moving indices... it is acceptable as long the research published or presented is of use to the community.

Well everything depend on the quality of the research, conference, and journal. I attended many conferences. Half of them keep standards. 50% of the half make money, the rest public relations. Similarly speaking, journals varied in their clasification. Impact factors are miss leading authors now. Few journals have hi impact score but going into deep analysis, you find many errors in their publication's articles. If you find general journal that accept variety of field, they develop more reputation with hi impact factors, while specialized journal that have low impact score but hi quality papers. I think very few percentages have good standards in research publication.

Good journals have an Impact Factor to indicate their reputation among researchers, while the conferences depend on the organizers. In general, journal articles are better than conference proceedings. For promotion purposes, many universities consider a weight of 2 points for the journal article and 1 point for the conference proceeding.

No doubt about this: a journal is preferable to a publication in proceedings - provided that you look for impact.

However, I always recommend trying to diversify your risks - and own impact. Diversification is always, under good understanding, a god criteria, I believe.

Surely most of us agree journal are better than proceeding. Beside the quality of research within and its impact factor.

Dear @Dony, Conference proceeding articles do not go through a tough reviewing process like journal articles, therefore, the quality of papers are affected accordingly, in general.

The two are part of the dissemination of research results process. Annals of Congress may serve to present partial results. Journal articles should have full results and analysis.

As they must have conclusive character, it is natural that journal articles are most valued. But some conferences, in some areas, enjoy great respectability.

To attend a conference is good in the sense that one has opportunity to come across some new dimension in ones field or to keep abreast with the develpoment in one's field. However, i am not sure about the quality of papers present in a conference, generally these paper give an idea about the research done, but are not product of an indepth research in my opinion, I prefer articles published in journals.

I agree with @Mohammad that about the quality of a paper presented in a conference.
