Semiochemicals are used by ladybird beetles in order to assess the quality of aphid colonies at oviposition sites. Female ladybirds rely on a blend of hydrocarbons. The blend contains about 40 molecules. However, after behavioural tests, it is confirmed that 6 of these are the likely source of information. Now I am interested to start working on which of these molecules are important in signalling. Do you have any information about this?
