It produce a substance names Hirudin which dilute the blood, und prevent it from coagulation. Somehow it could applicated with patients after endoprothetic knee-joint-replacement , patients with arthritis or even suck the accumulated blood out of some skin-areals after trauma!

In ayurved science leeches are being used since more than 5000 years for blood letting, blood purification, wound healing, skin diseases, pain relief, effusion, vericos ulcers, vericos veins etc. Earthworms are not used as medical treatment liin medical treatment like leeches.
