Symptoms indicate that it is a virus disease. All of the cucurbits mosaic viruses including Squash Mosaic Virus (SqMV) and Zucchini Yellow Mosaic Virus (ZYMV) can infect all of the cucurbit crops including melon, cucumber, pumpkin, summer and winter squash. These viruses, with the exception of SqMV, are transferred by aphids. SqMV is transmitted by both striped and spotted cucumber beetles. These may be managed by various cultural and chemical methods; however, the use of the resistant varieties, and "clean" seeds from reliable sources could be the best one.
