I am a student working on a thesis and i need assistance on a standardized instrument with the scoring key. I am going through MOCA, ADDEN BROOK and HMSC but could not find out which on is better?
If your means is a questionnaire assessment, it seems that Montral Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is useful. Because, it evalutes memory types and was translated to other language that you find it in the site as follow:
We have computerized neurocognitive test battery to assess various cognitive function of the human brain. Please see our website http://memandis.com for more information.
if you are looking for a rather small cognitive assessment you can use 3 good validated scores. MoCA, DemTect and MMSE. These scores have some specific properties. MMSE is best fitting for people with manifest cognitive impairment. DemTect is good for detection of mild cognitive impairment.
However, i prefer the MoCA because it has several good characterized subdomains and is very good evaluated. You can find a paper using MoCA subdomains in my publication list.
But you should keep in mind, that this scores can not be used to diagnose dementia. For that purpose you will need more assessment and you also have to identify restrictions in the activities of daily living.
For a very good and reliable cognitive testing the CERAD plus battery should be used. However, this testing takes a lot of time and you should have some training in it and experience.
Finally, if you are looking at cognition, you should look at other factors influencing the performance as well (e.g. depression, anxiety and so on...)
