What is needed for forest to be well managed for adaptation and mitigation to climate change?
Foresters must realize the critical role forest in developing countries play in adaptation and mitigation to climate change. In their management strategies, forester must identify policies, legislation and institutions within their countries that support adaptation and mitigation to climate change and use them to better manage their forests. Forests must be managed in such a way that they have added value to the communities for without direct management interventions, forest ecosystem health and resilience, productivity, biological diversity and carbon storage are likely to decrease in many places in developing countries due to climate change impacts.
