Of course, the answer is subjective. But from my point of view is that if one first clearly understands what a difference of differential equation is, then equips himself with the methods to solve such equations; it becomes useful in understanding the phenomenon and derive the equation. Instead of waiting for a phenomenon, following this approach strengthens our knowledge. By chance, even if I could not find a situation, then at least I can say that I have the knowledge of this concept. Of course, one has to spend time to study it. So, if a person does not have time, then it is a different matter.
