We are planning an in vivo study on the relationship between hypercholesterolemia and probiotics. Unfortunately, we don't have the chance to work with hamsters, we have very few options for experimental animals. We can use standart C57BL6 mice or wistar rat or Sprague Dawley rat. However, we couldn't decide which animal model would be more suitable. Which one do you think should we choose? I would be very happy if you share your expert opinion with me. Thank you..
C57BL/6 mice are better because the relationship between hypercholesterolemia and probiotics has been studied for a long time and the methods are easily found. In addition, we have screened the Wistar and SD rats' metabolomics and the results demonstrated they are quite different from the human being.

firstly, the mice are more similar to humans than rats, therefore, mice is a good option and best choice with many benefits:
easy to procure,
easy to handle,
cost effective than rats in terms of purchase cost maintenance also.
but still you can use rats too.

I think that mice are better than rats , then albino rats .
Mice are more suitable than other animals and they have an metabolism similar with human. Whereas, rats have not gall bladder. Therefore, it does not give accurate results in cholesterol studies.
